What is Cluster Bundle Builder?

Cluster Bundle Builder is your launchpad for creating customizable product bundles that offer discounts to customers. Think of it as mission control for building bundles that are out of this world! 🌟

Your customers can mix and match products from different "steps" (like Morning Routine, Night Routine, etc.) to build their perfect bundle and unlock discounts.

Accessing the App

From your Shopify admin, navigate to Apps

Click on Cluster Bundle Builder

Click Bundles in the left sidebar

Click Create Bundle to start building

Creating Your First Bundle

Basic Bundle Information

Every great mission needs a name! Start by setting up your bundle basics:

Bundle Name: This is what you'll see in your admin dashboard. Make it descriptive so you can easily identify it later (e.g., "Skincare Routine Builder" or "Morning Coffee Bundle").

Description: Add internal notes about this bundle. Your customers won't see this—it's just for you and your team to keep track of what this bundle is all about.

Status: Choose between:

Published: Your bundle is live and ready for customers to explore
Draft: Your bundle is hidden from customers while you're still building it

Pricing Methods & Discounts

Here's where the magic happens! You have three cosmic options for how to discount your bundles:

The Three Discount Types:

1. Percentage Discount

Takes a percentage off the total bundle price. Simple and effective!

Example: Apply a 20% discount to any bundle. If a customer builds a $100 bundle, they pay $80.

Best for: Straightforward promotions where you want a consistent percentage off.

2. Fixed Discount

Knocks a specific dollar amount off the bundle total.

Example: Apply a $10 discount. A $50 bundle becomes $40, a $100 bundle becomes $90.

Best for: Promotions with specific savings amounts (like "$10 off your bundle!").

3. Fixed Bundle Price

Set one price for the entire bundle, regardless of what products customers choose.

Example: "Build Your Bundle for $49.99!" Whether customers pick products worth $60 or $80, they pay $49.99.

Best for: "Build Your Own Box" style promotions where you want predictable pricing.

Flat vs. Tiered Discounts

Now for the fun part—you can apply your discount in two stellar ways:

Flat Discount
🌍

One discount rule to rule them all! Apply the same discount to every bundle, no matter what.

Example: Every bundle gets 15% off. Done and done.

When to use: Keep it simple when you want every customer to get the same deal.

Tiered Discount
🪐

Reward customers for adding more items or spending more! Set up multiple discount tiers that unlock as customers build bigger bundles.

You can tier based on:

Item Count: More products = bigger discount
Bundle Price: Higher subtotal = bigger discount

Example - Item Count Tiers:

Add 3 items: Get 10% off
Add 5 items: Get 15% off
Add 7+ items: Get 20% off

Example - Price Tiers:

Spend $50: Get $5 off
Spend $100: Get $15 off
Spend $200: Get $30 off

When to use: Encourage customers to add more to their bundle by offering better discounts for larger purchases.

Setting Up Tiered Discounts

Select Tiered discount under Pricing Method

Choose your discount type (Percentage, Fixed, or Fixed Bundle Price)

Click Set up discount tiers

For each tier, set:

Qualifier: Choose "Item count" or "Bundle price"
Threshold: The minimum amount to unlock this tier (e.g., 5 items or $300)
Discount value: The discount for this tier (e.g., 15% or $20)

Click Add another tier to create additional levels

Drag the handles (≡) to reorder tiers

💡 Pro tip: Make sure your tiers are in ascending order—you want customers to reach for the stars with increasingly better deals!

Bundle Steps & Organization

Think of bundle steps as different sections or categories in your bundle. Each step lets customers choose products, and you can set limits for each one.

Creating Bundle Steps

Heading: The name customers will see (e.g., "Morning Routine", "Choose Your Moisturizer")

Description: Help customers understand what to pick in this step (e.g., "Choose your morning products.")

Selected Products: Click Manage products to choose which products appear in this step.

Group Limits

Control how many items customers can (or must) add from each step:

Items ≥ 1: Customer must add at least 1 item from this step

Subtotal ≤ $200.00: Total of items from this step can't exceed $200

Click Add group limits to set minimum or maximum constraints:

Limit by
:

Items: Control the number of products
Subtotal: Control the total price of products

Condition
:

Minimum: Require at least X items or $X subtotal
Maximum: Allow no more than X items or $X subtotal

Example: For a skincare bundle, you might require customers to pick at least 1 item from "Morning Routine" (minimum 1 item) but allow up to 3 items from "Bonus Products" (maximum 3 items).

💡 Single step bundles: If you only create one step, customers will see your products without any step headings—perfect for simple "build your own" experiences!

Adding Multiple Steps

Click Add another step at the bottom to create additional sections. You can have as many steps as you need—the sky's not even the limit! 🔭

Use the drag handles (≡) to reorder your steps.

Bundle Limits

Set overall limits for the entire bundle (across all steps):

Number of products
: Control the total number of items in any bundle. Leave empty for no limit.

Example: "No limit" = customers can add as many items as they want

Max subtotal value
: Set a maximum total price for all products in the bundle. Leave empty for no limit.

Useful if you're offering a fixed bundle price and want to cap the value customers can receive

Best Practices & Tips

🌟 Start Simple, Scale Up

Begin with a single-step bundle and one discount type. Once you're comfortable, orbit into more complex tiered structures!

🚀 Test Your Tiers

Before launching tiered discounts, calculate what customers would pay at each tier to ensure your margins work.

💫 Use Clear Step Names

Name your steps based on what customers are choosing, not just product categories. "Choose Your Cleanser" is clearer than "Step 1."

🌙 Preview Your Work

Always view your bundle on the storefront before publishing to ensure it looks stellar!

⭐ Keep Group Limits Reasonable

Don't over-restrict your customers. Too many limits can frustrate the bundle-building experience.

🪐 Consider Mobile Users

Test your bundle on mobile devices—most customers shop from their phones!

Troubleshooting

Q: My bundle isn't showing on my storefront

A: Check that your bundle Status is set to "Published" and that it's been added to your theme.

Q: Customers can't add items to their bundle

A: Verify that your group limits aren't too restrictive and that products are in stock.

Q: The discount isn't calculating correctly

A: Double-check your tier thresholds and ensure they're in the right order. The system applies the highest tier the customer qualifies for.

Q: I can't see my style changes

A: Try clearing your browser cache or viewing in an incognito/private window.
